They Are the Champions! UEFA Recap, March 30th

2. April 2010 03:28

There were some very even matchups in the first round of the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League, and as such, we saw some pretty expected (though still thrilling!) performances. Today we check out what happened in the first couple of games of the UEFA quarter finals … and hope it gives us some clues about who will win the next round of UEFA matchups!

Lyon vs Bordeaux      3-1

It seems their status as 'the team that everyone wanted to draw' ended up getting to Girondins Bordeaux. Despite having seven previous wins under their belt, Bordeaux went down 3-1 to Lyon. Hugo Lloris's saves for Lyon, Lisandro's two goals (though soured a little by a yellow card!) and Michel Bastos' single meant that Bordeaux went down in their away match.

Bayern vs Man United    2-1

Bayern dominated every aspect of the match with Man U on Wednesday - in statistical terms, at least. They earned 59% of the possessions, had 13 shots on target compared to 6, slightly more wide shots, and fewer fouls committed (17 compared to 22 from Man U). But will they do it again? The bookies are saying no … the last second victory hasn't changed Bayern's overall odds substantially.

Current Odds

Currently, to win the entire UEFA Champions League trophy, Barca, Inter Milan and Man U are still the favourites. CSKA Movska's odds have shortened in some places and lengthened in others - here's the complete picture:

  • Arsenal: 15.00 - 17.00
  • Barcelona: 2.38 - 2.40
  • Bayern: 9.00 - 11.00
  • CSKA Movska: 41.00 - 67.00
  • Girondins Bordeaux: 31.00 - 41.00
  • Inter Milan: 4.50 - 5.00
  • Manchester United: 4.50 - 5.00
  • Olympique Lyon: 10.00 - 11.00

Gossip of Champions

The press conferences can get a bit dry, but the gossip at the UEFA Champions League is still nice and juicy! This week they are talking about:

·         Arsene Wenger's fondness for Viagra, spoken about in a D-Wreck interview

·         Chris Kamara, pundit at Sky Sports, recently made a short film promoting 11-a-side football with Tottenham strikers Jemain Defoe and Peter Crouch
