26. March 2010 04:15

Between the last match of the group stage and the first of the quarter finals, there is plenty of time for speculation. Starting today, we hunt down some facts to feed your speculative monster - the players and game record for every team involved in the quarter finals. We'll start with the first four team to play in the quarter finals - Lyon, Bordeaux, Bayern and Man U. Don't forget that you can get the bookies views on who will win UEFA Champions league here also!

Olympique Lyon

At the beginning of the Champions League, Lyon were placed 3rd behind Bordeaux's first place in the French league. Now, however, Lyon is seen more as a force than their French teammates. They have played in the Champions League for the past ten years straight.

Player-wise: Lisandro Lope has been one of the players to watch throughout the UEFA Champions League. He's new to the team, but seems to have proved his worth. The top goal scorers for Lyon this time round in the Champions League have been Miralem Pjanic with 4 goals and Bafetimbi Gomis, with 2 goals.

Girondins Bordeaux

Bordeaux were the Champions of the French League when the UEFA matches started, and despite managing to get to the quarter finals, it seems that their confidence has been shaken and the future is uncertain. They haven't won a Champions League Cup yet, but they are known as a risky and flamboyant team.

Player wise: Yoann Gurcoff is the headliner - after coming from AC Milan,  he helped take Bordeaux to a Ligue 1 title, their first in ten years. They have two players among the top goal scorers for the Champions League this time round - 3 each from Marouane Chamakh and Michael Ciani.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich have won Champions League cups most recently in 2001, and prior to that in 1974, 75 and 76. In the German league, Bayern were placed 2nd at the start of the UEFA competition.

Player-wise, Franck Ribery is recognied as the outstanding Bayern player. He's a great dribbler and is known for breaking out of the tightest spots - and is also known for being a true team player. Holger Badstuber is the young gun of the team, involved with the club since the age of 13, of Ivina Olic is the top goal scorer for the Champions League, with 2 goals so far.

Manchester United

One of the big guns of the quarter finals in the UEFA champions League, Man United won the Cup in 1999 and 2008. They are coached by Sir Alex Ferguson, 67-year old Scotsman who has won 11 Premier League titles, dozens of other cup successes, and gets really hot under the collar when its Champions League time!

Player-wise, Man U have Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney. There is very little else to say on that matter! Even non-football fans will recognise those names. Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney have each scored 4 goals so far in the Champions League matches, Paul Scholes has 3 under his belt and Antonio Valencia has 2.
