Where the Ball will Fall: Match Win Predictions

There were both surprises and expectations met in the first three days of the Australian Open. Here’s what we saw ... and what we expect for day 3!

Day 1

Rafael Nadal(ESP)   DEFEATED    Peter Luczak(AUS)

Maria Kirilenko(RUS) def.  Maria Sharapova(RUS)[14]

 Alisa Kleybanova(RUS) def.  Jelena Dokic(AUS)

Day 2

Roger Federer(SUI)   DEFEATED    Igor Andreev(RUS)

Lleyton Hewitt(AUS)   DEFEATED    Ricardo Hocevar(BRA)

Fernando Verdasco(ESP)    DEFEATED    Carsten Ball(AUS)

Illya Marchenko(UKR)   DEFEATED    Carlos Moya(ESP)

Day 3

Elena Dementieva (RUS) v Justine Henin (BEL):  This is said to be a tough match to call, with the odds shortening considerably in the final hours before it begins. Dementieva often plays best at the start of a tournament, while Henin has been inspired by seeing Clijsters come out of retirement to win a Grand Slam. Nobody can call this one!

Roger Federer(SUI)    VS    Victor Hanescu(ROU): Federer has won 5 of his last 6 matches, while Hanescu has lost 5 of his last 6. Hanescu has a predicted 2-5% chance of winning.

Day 1

An unfortunate ball boy delayed the Donald Young/Christophe Rochus match by 40 minutes at the Australian Open, when he accidentally urinated on himself before teh match was supposed to begin.

Andy Roddick collided with a line judge during his match against Thiemo de Bakker, but was good humored about it later, saying that the linesman should think about a career in the WWF.

Day 2

Nikolay Davydenko provides the Open’s most memorable, yet obscure, quote: “I’m not Paris Hilton!”

Eleven Croatian tennis fans were ejected for causing a menace; pictures of them flashing Nazi salutes have been published worldwide. At least two of those ejected are facing a murder trial.

"There's a lot guys that are ahead of me on ranking that I think I can take care of," says Lleyton Hewitt
